Hello and welcome to BBC Xtra English!
The government of Catalonia in Spain is going to make bullfighting illegal from next year.
This current season will be the last in which Catalonians and other bullfighting enthusiasts will be able to attend a bullfight in Catalonia.
Bullfighting is a very ancient tradition and is considered by many to be part of Spain’s cultural heritage.
It involves bullfighters, known as matadors, dressed in colourful costumes challenging huge bulls.
The outcome is often bloody and painful for the bull, with some matadors also being injured.
Animal rights campaigners say that bull fighting is a barbaric practice because the bull is killed at the end of the fight.
They are pleased that it is ending soon.
But other people feel sentimental about this sport.
One old man who was a matador told the BBC that the bull rings in Barcelona have hosted the best bull fights in the world.
But the President of Catalonia says that society has adapted over many years and that a cultural evolution had taken place.
However the question on some people’s lips is whether or not this will be the beginning of the end of many of Spain’s ancient traditions.
